Successful educational institutions are built on the foundation of a vibrant alumni community and building such a thriving community begins with vigorous alumni management. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) is a public engineering institute located in Tamil Nadu, India and has been ranked as the top engineering institute in India for four years in a row (2016-2019) by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Understanding the growing importance of building a strong alumni community, IIT Madras had been taking exhaustive measures to engage their alumni community. As a kick-start to their initiatives, they launched an alumni website to stay connected with the alumni community, keep them updated about the latest happenings and keep them engaged. While their efforts had started showing them good results, they explored a new dimension of Alumni Management. They felt the need for a solution that not only communicated or engaged the alumni but also help them deliver regular value to their alumni better.
The challenge they faced was in terms of Alumni Office Automation and getting a one-stop solution for alumni management.
In December 2017, IIT Madras Alumni Association partnered with AlmaShines and was all set to go live with their new Alumni platform, taking its Alumni Community a step further. With the launch of alumni platform in January 2018, IITMAA experienced a whole next level of alumni engagement facilitating basic modules like database management, event management, donation campaigns to high-end modules like mentorship, query redressal, issuance of digital alumni-cards, chapter meets, etc.
Within 6 months of the launch IIT Madras Alumni Platform
• Increased its alumni database from 22000 alumni to 30000 alumni registrations
• Boosted alumni engagement and participation in multiple campaigns and activities organized.
• Overcame challenges of content, communication, and collaboration between alma mater and its alumni.
This is how the Indian Institute of Technology Madras took its first step towards revolutionizing its alumni engagement through Alumni Office Automation.
